Fridays @ Five: Five Things We Loved this Week

Every Friday, we send out an exclusive list of five unique or interesting things we’ve found (or explored) around the web during the week.

It may include books, gadgets, albums, articles, new hacks/tricks, and — of course — all sorts of weird stuff we dig up around the web. It’s often focused on Intuitive things and personal growth. Please feel free to spread the word with friends who would also enjoy.

Here’s some great stuff to check out over the coming weekend…

Our theme this week is “Life Vision,” and I found an article on Rookie, an online magazine aimed at young women, that fits right into that category. I love this quote from the end of the piece- “Even when the world is telling you otherwise, you have control. You have power. Allow yourself to have full access to your emotions; to be the boss but also to feel compassion and be passionate. Use your voice. Stick up for your creativity and vision. And no matter what: Keep up the hard work.” Click here to read the article.

phaltoidaltars 2. ALTOID BOX ALTARS

Another important part of life vision and autonomy is intention. Some individuals choose to honor that intention through religious or spiritual practices. One way is to make an altar, whether that be in a bedroom or an old Altoids box. The top half of the page is a step-by-step guide to making an altar (specifically for those who practice Wicca) but if that’s not your thing, the bottom half has some really cool inspiration. I’ve discussed Ask A Mortician and the death positivity movement before, and Caitlin just posted a timely video about the results of the election and a concept called terror management theory. It turns out, if you prime someone who fears death with death-related rhetoric, they will run immediately to the safety of whoever promises to stop the thing that is going to cause their death, regardless of its logic or danger levels. Terror management theory is a concept that exists outside of political rhetoric, certainly, but it’s a timely video. Click here to watch the video.

phthinkingsideways4. THINKING SIDEWAYS

Thinking sideways, to me, is a lovely metaphor for iNtuitive thought. I recently discovered a podcast about “investigating things we simply don’t have the answer to.” Some of the episodes are conspiracy-heavy, but it’s a good opportunity to let the mind wander and chase something we can’t answer. Another way to set intention to support a life vision is by simply creating that intention. I found an article on Deepak Chopra’s website, “Five steps to setting powerful intentions.” I think his most powerful suggestion is to “slip into the gap.” It reminds me a lot of something Antonia told me- we spend most of our time on autopilot, so when there is an opportunity to do so, set the autopilot on the right course. I think intention and clear-mindedness sets us up to be good people even when we don’t have the energy to be. Click here to read the article.

So there you have it. Of course these picks reflect some of my personal biases and interests – but having hung around the Personality Hacker community for a while now – and being personal growth focused – I’m pretty sure you will find at least one thing from the above list to be interesting.
