I am an INFP close to an ENFP, and I have an ESTJ friend who is very loud and very smart. She does make me feel like I don’t stand up for myself enough, and that some of my ideas are stupid. My ESFJ mother was much worse. She did nothing but put me down, have impossible expectations of me, and she abused me for 5 years. The person in the world I’m most close to is my INFP best friend. We are a couple of lazy whiners who enjoy each others’ company a lot. No one can understand an INFP like another INFP.

Awesome! I love when typology helps us hold space for each other. Thanks for the comment. :)

I’m an INFP and my mom is an ESTJ. We definitely clash, but I work very hard to maintain a good relationship with her. Typology has helped me understand that she’s not just a nasty control freak. She has good intentions and truly wants to help me. I don’t think she understands me (or even wants to), but she loves me, and I’m cool with that.

Hi, Joel & Antonia! Thank you for this podcast! The question you answered so nicely interested me very much. The information from you reassured me as to building a close relationship with Sensors. The fact that in doing this I will have to put more effort does not scare me, besides, according to what you told on the podcast “what matters in the long run is common values and interests” and I agree with that. Each type has something inspiring about them and it is really great that the typology helps understand people better, make relationships stronger and life much better! Really appreciate all you podcasts!

Thanks so much for this podcast about a relationship between an INFP and an ESTJ. It describes my Dad and Mom perfectly. I love the way that you mentioned that they share the same co-pilot and 10-year-old functions, just in reverse, so they can tap into that similarity to understand each other. And you also mentioned that sharing common interests and goals is even more important than personality type. Beautiful.

Could you please do a similar podcast on a relationship between two people with the personality types of INFJ (myself) and ESFP (my husband)? Sometimes navigating the differences between us is a challenge. It takes a lot of energy for me to constantly translate my natural poetry-driven, metaphor-infused vocabulary into Sensor language, since my husband doesn’t understand or speak Intuitive language AT ALL. I would truly appreciate any tips that you guys have. Thanks so much!
