I really enjoyed this episode. Resisting growth because the next level appears distasteful has frequently been my experience. When I was in the midst of resisting, though, I didn’t perceive it as holding back. There was no sense of direction, not like advancing from one grade to the next at school. All I knew was that I didn’t want to change in a negative way, and generally thought of it more in terms of resisting temptation, as in not wanting to slide into greed or blasphemy. Thanks for clarifying that it’s possible to change and retain integrity.
Also, a request: Could you elaborate on the problem of not learning to stand up for oneself in one’s teens? Can this skill be developed later in life, and if so, what would you recommend, assuming the person has quietly advanced past level 5 in the Graves model and wants to become an influencer?

I like the way you approach this topic. As a little girl I was taught to be ‘thrifty’. My mom would never throw out leftovers and always seem to magically turn them into something special. Somehow, this idea really stuck with me to the point that I would try as hard as I could to find ways to re-ue trash to the point that my parents were annoyed with the junk piling up in my room. My dad is a bit of an entrepreneur and my mom’s parents and grandparent were businesspeople and it took me a while to be at peace with it. The way my mom first got me to accept and embrace the concept of money making was that money is just like the way you put it, money is simply a tool. Making money is neither good nor bad and in situations where you are in charge of others, money making is a necessity and a responsibility. What you do with it and how you deal with the power that comes with it is all up to you
