This episode explores why it can be difficult to find your best fit MBTI type when cognitive functions are oversimplified or described with bias. Joel and Antonia break down the four perceiving functions Sensation (Se), Memory (Si), Exploration (Ne), and Perspectives (Ni) and explain how each one can lead to mistyping through stereotypes, unclear language, or missing context. They also discuss why intuition is often misunderstood, why some people hide their intuitive side, and why intuitive patterning may matter even more in a world shaped by AI and increasing complexity.

I’ve been struggling a little with type, I mostly get ISTJ but I think I may actually be INTJ. I’ve recently learnt I’m actually AuDHD not just ADHD which actually explains my type a little as I reckon ITJ does fit the autistic side well.
I struggle answering questions in tests about myself because everything is situational and it really depends on whether the autistic or adhd side is in control in that moment. (Plus I masked for 40 years, even from myself)
I don’t think I had a good understanding of S vs N. I thought sensing due to trauma as I learned ned to make ppl happy to avoid being hit so thought maybe I based decisions on past experiences and I’ve never had a 5 year plan. I do however have pretty good intuition just lack the confidence to follow my gut..I struggle to make decisions as tend to overthink things and go down the rabbit hole of options in my mind and can forget what the hell the initial gut feeling even was. I have great pattern recognition and I do visualize things in my head and plan in advance but figured this was an anxiety thing. I play sports but need a friend to go with to sign up, Ive traveled over 30 countries but need a plan..preferably someone else does it tho haha, tours work well for this. Less work on the executive function.
So perhaps the Se being 3yr old function makes sense. I joke I can resist anything but temptation. I have chronic fatigue and now thinking perhaps the 3yr old can overpower me easily over indulge and justify why I can eat the ice cream etc
I was worried when you said INTJs are the least likely to be mistyped but then followed it up except the TJs that don’t identify with the woo woo impractical side which is definitely me.
I had wondered about being a feeler too but think that’s just the ppl pleasing side of me. I’m very much a logical thinker and if I feel strongly about something and confident in it or can’t fathom another option then I can be direct and the feelings of others are taking a backseat. Often asking them why they do something that way cos it doesn’t make sense to me but they can be insulted as think I’m questioning them but I really just need to understand the why when it’s not logical.
I have your book so best suss out the chapter on INTJ.
Thanks so much, sorry about the small novel
