The Enneagram is an ancient system of wisdom encoded into a nine pointed symbol. Each layer of the symbol has meaning, which Beatrice goes into in the program.
But here’s the gist: The Enneagram looks at human functioning based on three centers of intelligence: head, heart, and body. Head types focus on traditional, modern descriptions of intelligence and thinking Heart types focus on emotion, feeling and wanting connection Body types focus on gut knowing, kinesthetic intelligence, whether to take action Within these three centers of intelligence are three different type patterns of how you live within that center of intelligence.
3 centers X 3 type patterns = 9 Types.
Once you find your type (the center of intelligence and the type patterns of how you live within that center), you get A LOT of information quickly: Insights about why you do what you do Patterns of attention Where you place your focus (and what to avoid) Blindspots …and you learn how you can use this information in personal growth.
But there's one more layer... The Enneagram Instincts Each of 9 types has three versions based on which instinctual drive is most prominent in your experience. What is an instinctual drive?
There are three: Self-preservation, Social, and 1-to-1 Bonding (sometimes called "Sexual")
9 types X 3 instinctual drives = 27 Subtypes.
Once you discover which of the 27 subtypes you are you have even more information: more nuance, more specific knowledge about your focus of attention, patterns, automatic unconscious habits that you get caught up in without being aware of it… And you can learn so much more about: The “self.”
Your strengths and challenges Your default modes of operating that sometimes work AND sometimes get you in trouble
Now You Have the Freedom of Choice You have the freedom to break out of habits and manifest higher potential. To become more of who you are instead of being constricted by old habits associated with your personality.
