Josh, I have been pondering this post-processing in regards to an interaction with someone. It took 2 months for me to thoroughly process it and get in touch with my real emotions and also to comprehend what the other person’s real intention was in their statement. I’ve been questioning myself and now realize I’m not the only one who experiences this.
Can/ Will self-denial be a defence/ coping mechanism for INJ types?
I was struggling the other day trying to put words to why I’m careful about information I take in. I like having all the info, but I have to be judicious about taking it in. It really can cause a lot of damage or hurt or upheaval. Finally, it’s only taken 26 years for me to have a description for this. If I had had this when I was younger, it could have saved me so much time, effort, and pain. Can’t believe it, you guys are awesome. Thank you!
I must confess … I’ve never felt my inner experience be so exposed, thoroughly explained, and otherwise understood in all my life. I never quite had language for what was going on in my mind/thought patterns before personality hacker – now I do. So, even my own eyes were opened. Thank you so much! I will certainly be sharing this podcast.
Just some musings re: INXJs not being able to process through things in real-time…
I agree, though I think it’s similar to Antonia’s comment (in a later podcast) about ISFJs being adaptable over time. As an INTJ, it does take me a long time to post-process, esp. through my emotions. But once I do force myself to sit down and think through it all — usually over multiple sessions — I gain A LOT of new information and awareness. I pick things apart very thoroughly, to the base components, so that when I encounter the base components in a different structure, there’s a certain degree of recognition that allows me to make quick(er) judgments, and block out certain inputs if necessary.
So, it’s true that we’re vulnerable… the first time around. But if we take a break from using our Ni purely for entertainment / escapism, and also employ it for (intentional) personal growth, then it can create some body armor (“exoskeleton”) that will allow us to move about and explore the world more freely, less fearfully.
Thanks for the podcast; good food for thought, as always.
