In this episode, Joel and Antonia unpack a key insight from Rick Rubin: “Just because something is out of your control doesn’t mean it’s opposed to you.” They explore how this mindset shift impacts creativity, relationships, and personal growth, through the lens of personality type, the Enneagram, and Jungian functions.

I realized while listening that one way to frame my control/opposition experience (as an INFJ, surprise surprise) is that I feel threatened by strangers approaching me. Not because I think they intend to hurt me, but because I worry they will want something from me, and I don’t trust my ability to say “no” to things. In a weird way, I feel as though I lack control over myself in that setting, and I worry about my own opposition to myself.
