Hello! I’ll only address the initial reference to the scripture story told in the beginning of the show.

Let me reference the scripture here:
“If anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. For each will have to bear his own load.” Galatians 6

I believe that the question asked was, “should be carry another’s burdens, or our own load?” I would like to talk about how one can live reaching both of those goals.

First, reference what is the law of Christ, which I believe can be referenced in the gospel of Matthew:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

The burden of Christ is to give another rest. This is the load he must carry. But not all others, but those that approach him. Saving the world (a recipe for burnout) is not the job, but rather to give to those who demonstrate vulnerability and humility to ask. In other words, it’s not being a doormat that the world may wipe their feet without consideration to the burden bearer. Rather it’s a coming along side with another – one burden at time – with the intended goal for each to eventually carry their own load.

The party having their load carried shouldn’t boast in a vain and sudden shift in energy, but rather identify their neighbor’s participation. The goal should be to carry your own load. But this scripture reminds us that complications occur during a journey and you should be prepared to shoulder each other’s loads at times to keep moving along the path of life.

By shouldering another’s burden, you grant them rest. However, to provide rest, one must be rested. This can be exemplified where Christ withdrew from crowds who were clearly in need, in order to provide rest for himself. Shouldering burdens was never the goal, but rather a law put into place in order for the journey of life to continue with each other as the neighbor. Better to walk slowly with another than to press forward alone.

It is a proud moment to carry your own load. But this law really comes as a refreshing moment when you happen to be the one in need. A humble and gentle friend walks quietly alongside, shouldering another’s burden with the intention of keeping them valued in community even during their moment of need.

I LOVE YOU TWO! What an empowering podcast for someone in their mid 20s.

I love this idea of seeing borrowed esteem and true self worth as two opposite ends of a spectrum

This podcast is so powerful; thank you!
