It does seem that I use the Si/Ne polarity, after listening to those podcasts.
Aside from that, however, I still use Ni (my 8th function) more than Se (my 5th function), to the extent that people who try to guess my type often mistake me for an Intuitive!
I am really excited that you guys are finally diving into the shadow functions!! As a huge meters Briggs nerd, I’ve been trying to get a better understanding of how shadow functions show up for different types and if there’s a way to “grow” them….there seems to be almost no information I can find. I actually thought about emailing you guys and asking!
It’s interesting that Antonia says we have an antagonistic attitude towards our sixth function. I don’t experience mine this way. As an ENTP, I am drawn to Extroverted Thinking, and in fact, quite envious of those who use it well to set and accomplish goals without getting tripped up by “interior” issues. (I’m actually the same about extroverted feeling in a way, but I am generally envious of E__J types!) My problem with it is that I don’t think my colleagues or even family/friends who use Extroverted Thinking higher (first or second) respect me. I feel like I seem flaky to them. But I’m also a six on the enneagram and could be projecting!!
While you could be using Ni, it’s more likely to be a combination of the Si/Ne polarity. That is, while you are reviewing and reflecting on the past, you are making Ne connections as if you were experiencing the situation for the first time.
We talk a bit about how Si/Ne works here (and in other podcasts, I just can’t remember which ones): https://personalityhacker.com/podcast-episode-0266-myers-briggs-perceiving-function-idealism/

In contrast to what was stated, I actually find that I tap into my 7th and 8th functions, while my 5th function is hard to grapple with. As an ISFJ, even while using my dominant Si, I weave in bits of Ni (my 8th function) – while reflecting on the past, I contemplate deeply and have “aha!” moments, which are associated with Si. Meanwhile, my 5th function, Se, is practically unused.
