Yep look a like personalities can be tricky sometimes. For me I’m pretty sure I’m an ISFJ. But when I was in negative Si-Ti loops, I thought I could be an ISTP or even INTP due to overly relying on my third function of Ti. I think it could be common for feeler guys to mistype as thinkers due to faulty societal stereotypes of males needing to be more logical or analytical. Do you guys think it could be common for feeler males to mistype as thinkers? Have you guys seen this one in practice a lot?
Awesome podcast btw!
Another approach is to look at how Fi+Te fits (as used by INFP) compared to how Ti+Fe fit (INTP). Both types use both Thinking and Feeling – but differently, beyond just degree of development.
Justine, I know your struggle! For various reasons I wondered between INFP and INTP. One step that helped was comparing NF and NT temperaments. That clinched it for me.
I also came across this quite good article, which brings science into the mix of INFP careers. I haven’t often seen this perspective, which is validating to us techie INFPs.

I am curious what you think about Objective Personality? On their view, the types aren’t cut and dry and en-p could be like an estimated or esfj if they use their tertiary a lot. They also seem to hold the view that this isn’t unhealthy necessarily, some types have a well developed tertiary if they are socially oriented as e—p or could be traditional e—p types and focus more on their introverted decider. I think presenting this as being something really clear and mistaken if you don’t get it “right” isn’t as clear cut on this theory.
It would probably be really helpful to have some kind of digital version – podcast episodes, or video if necessary – of these “embodiment exercises” of the 8 functions, that Joel talks about, if that is possible, and doesn’t ruin your business model.
Also, great that you mentioned the principle of mistyping being spread through people describing “their” type as their type on forums and similar. I think that’s the primary reason I’m not sure of my type yet – when I think i have it almost nailed down, I find a set of conflicting information and can’t know which is the correct one.
