I’ve never heard of this perspective before. Is it because it may be intrusive? (Says the IxxJ). Is this a beauty (intention vs appreciation) is in the eye of the beholder vs. creator argument? I’m having trouble understanding your experience because I don’t share it. If you were willing to throw out some more words maybe I can find some meaning and understand it better that way.

Joel, I’m not interested in someone showing gratitude for something I did not do for them, to me that is patronising. If you express gratitude for a deliberate action I took for your benefit, then such an expression will be met with reciprocal gratitude.

To express gratitude to me for something I did not do for you is you making an assumption about my intentions and is a form of judging me by your standards and expectations of how a person ‘should’ be. Such a judgment may work for an ENFP but it doesn’t fly for this ENTP.
